Odd Days (Giorni Dispari) - Ludovico Einaudi

Absolutely love this piece, just found it now.
I love the danger you can hear in those strings, with the repeated semiquavers, and 3 chord progression (go to 1.30 mark). It is gorgeous.

I already loved his work, and was playing I Giorni for my grandma the other day. He has created some beautiful pieces.
I will admit it could build more possibly, the repetition could be drawn out it something bigger perhaps, but I do like the final section because it’s that gorgeous string section again that gives me chills.

I also thought the cello’s progression sounded very James Bond-esque, and with Skyfall just coming out, I had to share it.

The piece was apparently written about “one of those days” when things turn out completely different than what we expect. I think you can hear the uncertainty of what is coming with those chilling semitone movements in the cello, and again, that gorgeous string section.

yup

You may know this! Quite a famous piece, it reminds me very much of Tchaikovsky, am I the only one who can hear that?

Grieg Piano Concerto, 1st Movement, Pawel Mazurkiewicz

Do enjoy, good night!x

So beautiful and powerful, I adore it.

(Sibelius Symphony No. 6 in D minor (1/4))

So I’ll fill you in to all the bands I’m seeing this summer when I go down to London for the Olympics…

But for now I’ll just tell you of one thing…

It’s quite different to the rest of the musicians I’ll be seeing. I’m actually going to one of the BBC Proms!

Yup, so MASSIVE classical geek here, I play violin classically so it’s a given really, so I am SO excited to be going to one of the Proms! Prom 35 to be exact.

Here are the details because it half 1am and I’m too tired to write them myself;

Thursday 9 August
6.30pm – c. 9.20pm
Royal Albert Hall

Piano and organ

  • Sibelius

Symphony No. 6 in D minor (29 mins)
  • Delius

    Cynara (10 mins)
  • Grieg

Piano Concerto in A minor (29 mins)
  • INTERVAL
  • Per Nørgård

    Symphony No. 7 (27 mins)
    UK Premiere
  • Sibelius

Symphony No. 3 in C major (30 mins)
  • Steven Osbornepiano
  • Roderick Williamsbaritone
  • BBC Philharmonic
  • John Storgårdsconductor, Proms debut artist

SO I’M VERY EXCITED.

Also, those who use Sibelius software will either love or hate that name. I love composing, so not going to lie, I love Sibelius.

I’m going to link a couple of the pieces and then bed for me!

Good Night!x

Mental. I like how Ravel composed this so the piano is so alike to a harp.

Easily my favourite movement of the Simple Symphony, both to listen and to play. It makes me well up every time I play it, because of its sheer beauty and passion. I’m far to tired to name each section that gives me complete chills, but just listen to it, please. Even if you have never listened to classical. Benjamin Britten is an amazing British composer, and seriously, this piece will give you chills.

Anyone watching Young Musician of the Year? Who would you like to win?

I’m a bit of a sucker for the cello, always have been. Biased as a strings player, maybe ;)
